Bucket List

About a year ago I bought a small notebook and started a bucket list. Over a year later, I haven't even finished coming up with 100 things for my list, but that's okay. I wanted a balance of small things mixed with extravagant things. I'm trying to keep it realistic. So far I have come up with 70 things for my list and I have completed...2 things. Maybe 3.

I was lucky enough to cross my first achievement off my list after traveling to Utah for Shandice's wedding. Physically placing a check mark next to "#51- Travel in Style" was fantastic. I wrote in my notebook all about the experience of flying Business Class so I'll never forget it.

I may or may not finish all of the things on my list before I die, but I think the most important thing is that I have a list. A list of 100 thinks that will bring me joy. A list that I can look to for inspiration. A notebook full of memories that left me a happy girl.

I'm so grateful that I live a happy life. Of course I've felt heartache and very real pain, but at the end of the day I know my world holds people that love me, and people that I love. I've always wanted an adventurous life, and I am so grateful that life has presented the opportunity for me to have it. Even though my journey has taken me far from my friends and family, I can't imagine the alternative. I'm grateful that I found Matt.

I want this blog to be a place where I can look back and recount all my adventures, big and small, not just about Australia. I'll be posting my bucket list here soon, and you can celebrate my moments with me....big and small.

Fairy Bread

I had never heard of Fairy Bread until a few weeks ago. It is apparently popular in Australia and England. Personally, I'm shocked that America isn't into this, because what sounds more American than spreading butter on bread and covering it with sprinkles? Matt made me some of his childhood treat so I wouldn't be left out.

How Does Our Garden Grow?

We did some hard core weeding this week on our little garden. It is doing pretty well through the winter.

As I was weeding around our tiny pepper plants, I noticed that they were actually covered on peppers! One bright red, and lots of green. We picked three of them.

Matt and I shared a nibble of a green one. I took a tiny bite, and I almost died! It was SO hot!

We received a palm tree from our neighbor across the street a few weeks ago. We had a bad wind storm that blew it and its pot over, breaking the pot. The neighbor was going to throw it out, but we took it instead. We finally planted it, and here it is! I haven't figured out how to rotate pictures on my iPad, so forgive me for making you tilt your head.

$$$

Here is another picture of some Aussie currency. The silver coins are both 50 cents, and the small gold colored one is $2. Both sides of the bills look similar, just featuring a different person. The Queen of England is on every coin.

Our tree finally decided to take blooming seriously! I think I am loving the blooms so much because my trip around the world made me skip right over spring!

Our garden is toughing out the winter. With all the rain we have had, grass is trying to take over. We have to attack it a few times a week, but so far, so good.

The other night we were sitting in the lounge room when we heard a few kookaburras nearby...very near. We ran outside to find them on the power lines above our yard. I watched for a moment before running for my camera. I missed out on the good shot as you can see below. They flew off. It was still a treat to see and hear them so close. I always say they sound like monkeys. Matt pitched in that their call remind him of something primitive, and I totally agree. You can totally imagine them chilling with dinosaurs!

I had a very hard time being away from home for the 4th of July. It was 30% about patriotism, and 70% about being away from family and friends for the celebration. I brought back this little flag from America in May. Matt put it up on our cabinet, so the USA is represented in our house.

All of the light switches I have seen are strange to me. They're so little, generally on the door frame, and down is on, and up is off! Confusing. I'll have to get a picture of an outlet....they're even worse!

Money! Australian money is pretty cool. The bills are made of plastic, are very colorful, and they have a cool see-through bit. Bills come in $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100. Each bill is a different color. I'll have to get a picture of more kind when they're around. Coins all have The Queen of England on them, and something Australian on the other side. There are 5, 10, 20, and 50 cent pieces. That is what they're called as well....no nickels or dimes. All of these coins are silver and go from small to big according to value. In this picture there is a 5 cent and 10 cent piece at the top, and two 20 cent pieces on the bottom. There are also $1 and $2 coins that I'll have to get a picture of, they're a goldish color. A two dollar coin is handy, but I hate that there aren't 1 dollar bills. Also, there are no 1 cent pieces, so totals are rounded up or down to the nearest 5 cents.

I missed a picture day yesterday. By the time I got around to doing it, my iPad was dead, and then, frankly, I forgot! I'll double up to make up for it.

First, here is a picture of my cute bike.

Forgive me for having in our shed, it was dark outside when I took the picture, so I needed the light! This cute thing gets me around when Matt is at work with the car. Riding around on it actually helped me get used to the driving pattern of driving on the left side of the road without the pressure of a car. If you look closely at the top bar, you'll see it says 'Bella'. That sealed the deal for me picking this bike, so it can be a tribute to my dog.

The last few weeks I have become a documentary junkie! My favorite ones that we have been watching have been the BBC Earth documentaries.

I know they have been out a while, so I am behind in my discovery, but they're incredible. I generally end up tuning out nature documentaries, but these are so incredibly shot. The footage would be fascinating to watch with no voice over, but it is amazingly narrated! David Attenborough narrates them. He has the most amazing British accent! Definitely the British Morgan Freeman. The American release of these documentaries are narrated by Oprah. Nothing against her, but it seems a sin not to use David Attenborough. I would highly recommend getting your hand on a copy that has him over Oprah. I cant imagine the dedication it took the filmmakers to get the footage that they did. From reptiles to bugs and monkeys and even plants, everything is captivating. Also, the technology that we have that allowed them to capture the footage they did is stunning. They're able to get so close, with such detail. We have an HD projector in our lounge room that gives us movie theater quality...maybe better, especially since my drink doesn't cost $5 :). It makes watching these just about perfect.

Haha, that picture is kind of pointless since it is too dark to see the size of our projector screen. I'm not even sure how big it is! I would guess about 8 feet diagonal. I've been so spoiled by it....I get grouchy when Matt has be watch Glee on our 36 inch TV so he can play a game on the big screen. :)

And just because, here is a dopey picture of Floyd....he needs a trim.

Whoops!

Yesterday, I was sitting in the lounge room and Matt was in the bathroom shaving. Suddenly the buzz of his razor stopped and he cried out, "Nooooo!"

He came out of the bathroom and showed me the cause of his dismay.

He had been trimming his eyebrows and, against his better judgement, decided to use the electric shaver over scissors. The plastic guard slipped and he shaved off half an eyebrow! I couldn't help myself and doubled over in laughter. Now that it has been over a day, I can control my giggles.

I begged him to let me take a picture, and he refused. Finally I got him to allow me to have a close up picture, so this is all we get.

I was kind enough to run our errands without him today so he could hide from the world. He is off to work tomorrow for three days, and since he works with disabled people, he doesn't really mind.

Anyone have any tips for growing back eyebrows? Or holding back giggles? Anyone?
